Making Waves 2009

Making Waves is an electro synth pop album of songs all written and produced by me, Gavin Tyte. I wrote them because I love creating music and it's a bit of fun! The album expresses my love for Jesus and also my love for piano and synthesizers.

The Real Stuff

This song is about Moses speaking to pharaoh. Pharaoh stands directly against God - 'the real stuff'. Both Moses and God know that the consequences will be catastrophic and God gives pharaoh every opportunity to back down. I love the deep square-wave riff that goes all the way through the song - beep, beep, be, be, beep.

Do you want the real stuff pharaoh?
You know it's going to blow your mind
Do you want the real stuff pharaoh?
You're gonna get left far behind
Oh you think that you're so tough pharaoh
I've really got to let you know
Things are going to get so rough pharaoh
You'd better let my people go

Don't do it pharaoh, no no no.

Do you think that I'm kidding pharaoh?
I suggest you change your stance
Things are going to get sticky pharaoh
Are you prepared to take the chance?
I want you to hear me pharaoh
You can't say that you didn't know
You're messing with Yahweh pharaoh
You'd better let my people go

Don't do it pharaoh, no no no.

Prodigal

This song was written, recorded and produced in a single day. Think of it like a sketch or quick painting. The track starts with the piano riff, then the other instruments come in one by one as they were added. After the backing track was complete I went back and wrote the lyrics and recorded them.  The song is about, if you couldn't guess, the prodigal child.

I want to run away
In disgrace, turn my face
You, watching out for me
It's been so long, hope burning strong

And I thank you
And I praise you

I, falling on my knees
My conscience pierced, my head bowed low
You gather in your arms
This lonely child, this lonely lamb

And I thank you
And I praise you

I look into your eyes
Feel so warm, coming home
You take me by the hand
Your tear-stained heart has welcomed me

And I thank you
And I praise you

Come

Spot the Pet Shop Boys influence?  This song is about the things that chain us down - our inner struggles.  It could be a mental illness such as depression, an addiction or something that we have done or that has happened to us in our past.  What ever it is, we need Jesus to come in his mercy and set us free.

All alone in my mind, thoughts are playing no rewind
Feel ashamed, feeling low, and there's nowhere else to go
The things that I've done, the things that I've said
Become a minefield in my head
I want to have peace, I want to break free
From these chains that buckle me

Come, come, I am calling out, calling out
Come, come, I am calling out, crying out
Come Lord Jesus, come
In your mercy, Lord Jesus come

No escape, no peace of mind
Left perfection far behind
Broken doll on the shelf
Who can save you from yourself?
The things that were done, the things that were said
Became a minefield in my head
I want to have peace, I want to break free
From these chains that buckle me

Come

Hear My Prayer

This is my version of the Taize chant written by Jacques Berthier.   It is an intercessory song inspired by the street work here in Twerton, Bath.  So many people need Jesus.  The problems seem so big, so entrenched - alcoholism, addiction, abuse.  This is my cry to God - that we would be Jesus to those in our communities who desperately need his touch.

O Lord hear my prayer
O Lord hear my prayer
When I call, answer me
O Lord hear my praer
O Lord hear my prayer
Come and listen to me

Help us be Jesus to the world
Help us be your hands and your feet
Lord, help us have your heart for the broken-hearted
Help us be Jesus to a world
That needs you more than words can tell
Help us be Jesus to the world

Hear my prayer

See You Smile Again

We have a hope that one day Jesus will "make all things new." We will be united with our loved ones; fathers with daughters, mothers with sons. There will so many tears of joy and laughter. We will see our loved ones smile again.

Although you've gone and died
Your voice is always with me
I wipe away my tears
You're safely home

And when I see you face to face
And feel the warmth of your embrace
There'll only be tears of joy and laughter when
I see you smile again

Although I'm on my own
Your eyes are always with me
At times the race was hard
You claimed your prize

And when I cross the finish line
I'll feel your hand enclosed in mine
There'll be no regrets or pain or sadness when
I see you smile again

And when I cross the finish line
I'll feel your hand enclosed in mine
There'll be no more tears because I'll be there
To see you smiling

And when I see you face to face
And feel the warmth of your embrace
There'll only be tears of joy and laughter when
I see you smile again

See you smile again

Her

There is one gift that everyone can give, and that is the gift of listening.  So many people just need someone to listen to them - to not give advice, to not interrupt, to not turn the conversation to be about them - but to give undivided attention.

Have you got time to spare
Listening to a lonely soul?
Will you shed a tear, keep your diary clear for her?
Could you put yourself aside
To make her feel a million pounds?
Do you have the mind, can you make the time for her?

And when she walks alone
And there's no-one there to hold her hand
When push comes to shove, could you feel His love for her?
When daylight fades away
And she's broken, accused and disowned
Will you hear from God, face the firing squad for her?

Orbit

This track was inspired by a track I heard when I was about 12 years old.  It had this sweeping pad sounds and a stabbing lead synth line.  I've tried to recreate that 1980s feel here with this track.
