Worship EP 2009
This Worship EP is a collection of the electro pop worship developed at St. Mike's Church in Twerton. We had very few musicians in the congregation and often it would be just me at the keyboard. To help liven things up at a gatherings I programmed up a few worship songs giving them a synth overhaul. Here they are as tracks with vocals and also as backing tracks.
1. Praise is rising 2. Our Father 3. You led me 4. Who can know? 5. You are 6. Hear my prayer1. Praise is rising (Hosanna)
Written by Brenton Brown. Recorded by Gavin Tyte.
A mixture of Erasure, Vangelis and Jarre in this synth track. I'm not entirely it suits my laid back vocal style but hey, there's a backing track here and if you have some attitude then please send me a vocal take!
Praise is rising Praise is rising (backing track)
2. Our Father
Written and recorded by Gavin Tyte.
Our Father Our Father (backing track)I wrote this song because I wanted a fun, child-friendly, and totally funky setting for The Lord's Prayer. I tried to stick as close as possible to the words of Jesus. The kind children of St. Michael's Junior School in Twerton provided the backing vocals.
Our Father in heaven
Hallowed be Your name
Your kingdom come
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven
Give us our daily bread
Forgive us as we do the same
Lead us not into temptation
Deliver us from the evil one
Yours is (yours is)
The kingdom (the kingdom)
The power (the power)
The glory (the glory)
Amen
Note: The backing track is slightly simpler in that there is no ad-lib.

3. You led me to the cross
Written by Matt Redman. Recorded by Gavin Tyte.
This has got to be one of my all time favourite worship songs. I just love it. The arrangement is a warm synth work with strings, pads and a wandering solo piano. The rap in the middle is another song from Matt called 'You confide in those who fear you'. The reason I rapped this was not for any deep theological reason but because it was the previous song in the Soul Survivor song book. Jesus, lead me to the cross. I won't forget the love you've shown.
You led me You led me (backing track)
4. Who can know the mind of our creator
Written by Martyn Layzell. Recorded by Gavin Tyte.
According to one of my sources (who will remain nameless, Sarah), Martyn wrote this beautiful song whilst sat in a conference. He should have been paying attention to the speaker, but I'm sure glad he didn't. Nice one Mart.
Who can know? Who can know? (backing track)
5. You are
Written by Ben Cantelon. Recorded by Gavin Tyte.
Starting with a soulful Hammond organ, this track alternates between a classic rock drum loop and a 2-step groove that will hopefully get 'em dancing in the aisles.
You are You are (backing track)
6. O Lord hear my prayer
Written by Jacques Berthier. Arranged and recorded by Gavin Tyte.
This track is a version of the Taize chant 'O Lord Hear My Prayer' and is produced in a trip-hop style. It is an intercessory song inspired by the work here in Twerton, Bath. So many people need Jesus. The problems seem so big, so entrenched - alcoholism, addiction, abuse. This is my cry to God - that we would be Jesus to those in our communities who desperately need his touch.
Help us be Jesus to the world
Help us be your hands and your feet
Lord, help have your heart for the broken hearted
Help us be Jesus to a world that needs you more than words can tell
Help us be Jesus to the world
